Ponferrada (Spanish pronunciation: [poɱfeˈraða]) is a city of Spain, located in the autonomous community of Castile and León. Ponferrada, the second most populated municipality of the Province of León, is also the capital city of El Bierzo, the only comarca recognised as administrative entity by law in the region. Surrounded by mountains, the city straddles the course of the Sil River. It is the last major town on the French route of the Camino de Santiago before it reaches Santiago de Compostela. In 2008, it had a population of 69,769.

Bierzo (DO)

Bierzo is a Spanish Denominación de Origen Protegida (DOP) for wines located in the northwest of the province of León (Castile and León, Spain) and covers about 3,000 km². It borders on the provinces of Ourense, Lugo and Asturias in the north and in the south on areas of La Montaña, la Cabrera and La Meseta, in Léon. The area consists of numerous small valleys in the mountainous part (Alto Bierzo) and of a wide, flat plain (Bajo Bierzo). The Torre de la Rosaleda (Tower of the Rose Garden) is a 107-meter (351 ft) tall building in La Rosa District of the city of Ponferrada, Spain. It is the tallest building in the city of Ponferrada and all of Castile and León.Construction began in 2006 and finished in 2009 by Grupo Begar León group. It is 30 floors and 107 meters tall and has a distinctive shape with projections both east and west on several upper floors. It is the tallest building in the province. . The Tower (building's official website) surmounts a 12-story building 80 meters wide and 700 meters long.
